Dog Bed

Ruby is napping on the dog bed today. She doesn’t like her crib during the day, and she will only fall asleep in our arms. I know that some people may find it strange that I put my baby on the hairy dog bed, but trust me, it is a big improvement that she likes to be transferred anywhere, hairy or not. I first tried the dog bed because I noticed that when she is getting tired, she flops herself down there and giggles. Then she gets up and walks around in circles and flops back down. I'm not sure if she takes more developmental cues from us or from our dogs. Nora goes through a similar ritual on the very same bed. Whenever Nora or Ruby does this, I like to rub or scratch their backs. With Ruby, I hope that she will fall asleep, but the transition isn’t an easy one. She usally cons her way into my arms by asking me to read her a book or give her a bottle. She sits in my lap and cries a little before drifting off. I don’t understand how a child of mine can be afraid of sleep. It’s one of my favorite things to do. It’s only a matter of time until she’ll lie down on the pillowy dog bed and fall asleep without my help. That will be a key factor in getting her back in daycare. Maybe by then I will have stopped calling it a dog bed. Daycare providers probably prefer terms like futon or day bed. Please sleep Ruby…

Her hair is great when she wakes up:

I have written several other posts lately, but they have been bitter and vindictive, so it's better that I delete them. I won’t display them here. I am having a little trouble with my job transition, and while part of me wants to put nasty things about nasty people on the Internet for all to see, I will just breathe deeply and live well. That is the best revenge, right? The only things that need to be said: I am between gigs, and I have a couple of irons in the fire. Everything will be fine soon. The upshot of my temporary unemployment is that I have been able to spend a lot of time with Ani, Ruby and our friends lately.

Yummy Salmon.

Hey Charo,

Is there another Lee?
