| Monday, August 2, 2004 Solids, Axes, and Pie Ruby has now made two attempts to eat “solid food.” We started out with some bland and gross looking rice cereal mixed with some milk. It looked really bland and really gross. Ruby, however, thought it was good fun. She rolled it around in her mouth before letting it dribble down her shirt and on to Ani’s leg. She was giggling and attempted enthusiastically to shove the spoon into her mouth whenever she could, so every thing seems to be progressing normally. She'll be eating strawberry rhubarb pies in no time. I’m not sure who is more excited about the whole thing, Ruby or Nora. I think our movie-star-dog friend can see into the future and is looking forward to many spilled morsels. This is her actual smile, not a photoshop creation. I love that dog.
I’ve got a new guitar! Ruby likes to hear me play, even if nobody else does. I went into the music shop to get a coulple of plastic picks for my electric guitar, and there it was: a new Yamaha acoustic. It just called my name out. It's not like it was the most desireable instrument in the place, but it seemed right. It is Yamaha's entry level solid top guitar, but at least it has the solid top, and it’s much better than many other more expensive guitars that I’ve screwed around with. It’s pretty simple, no bells and whistles, but it sounds great and has a nice action. What more could I want? Well, I guess that I’d actually like to be able to play it, but that will take some time. I’m getting pretty good moving around between chords, and I play a mean Iron Man and a disjointed Wish You Were Here. Tim from the Wax Models is a great guitar player, and I think he’s going to start giving me lessons. In the meantime, I'll just choose my audiences carefully.
I need to give a special acknowledgement to my father, who read about our failed attempt to drive (may 12) over the hill a couple of months back. From this diligent research, he gleaned that Ani and I are big fans of Ikeda’s in Auburn, and we are especially fond of their strawberry rhubarb pie. On their way back from the city this weekend, they were so kind as to pick this beautiful creation up and hand deliver it to our home! Many, many, many, many thanks! (I think it must have been Ani who ate the little bits of crust from the side before this picture could be taken. It sure wasn’t me. Nope. Probably Ani.)
