Yum

I am pretty sure that going out into the world is a challenge with an infant. I am only “pretty sure” of this because Ruby, so far… knock wood… has been perfect on every outing. I think the reasons for this are many, but luck would probably be first on that list. Also, whenever Ruby gets into the car seat and drives somewhere, she is instantly transported to the nether-regions. Confined space + steady vibrating motion = dazed and content state. It’s kinda like baby heroin. But even that doesn’t fully explain Ruby’s uncanny good behavior. We had our second sushi outing since March 19 today, and Ruby was a perfect angel; at least while she was in the Sushi Pier. She cried in the car for much of the trip there; we almost turned around twice, but hunger and low blood sugar got the best of us. As soon as we got out of the car, she was asleep. She was quiet and content through our lazily paced lunch. At exactly the time that Ani mentioned getting the check, little baby eyes sprang open, and the look of a peaceful and dreamy cherub morphed into a devilish scowl, accompanied by the bellows like hyperventilation that precedes a cry. I picked up the carrier, and walked outside, leaving Ani to deal with the check (a gallant and chivalrous move, no?) Ruby waited until we were well away from the door and into the parking lot before she let her lungs fly. Thanks for waiting dear one. I need my sushi fix, and I think that for Ani, avoiding the wonders of raw fish and wasabi was the hardest part of her pregnancy.
To be accurate, today was Ani's third sushi experience since Ruby joined us. Our friend Jim Elliot, bless him, surprised us by sneaking some sushi and a beer for us to split into the hospital on the day after Ruby was born.
Go for it Ani:
